Ordinary Skin: Developing the Writer’s Life
Thursday, March 14- Tuesday, March 19th 2019
Arrival Thursday 4-6pm
Welcome dinner at 7pm
Tuesday departure 4pm.
A rare opportunity to join award-winning author Amy Hale Auker in a four-day, five-night workshop in New England's beautiful Berkshire Mountains, where you'll explore and develop the writer's life. Auker’s first book of creative non-fiction, Rightful Place, won the 2012 WILLA Award. Since that time, Auker has released two novels, and most recently, her landmark Ordinary Skin: Essays from Willow Springs.
Participants should arrive ready to spend much of the week writing, both in a group setting and in solitude, with daily one-on-one sessions with Amy.
Mornings will focus on developing individual writing practices, embracing creative process, meeting yourself in quiet space, and discovering sense of place, as well as discussions about how meaningful work and daily living feed the writing practice. For those who wish to incorporate movement and inward seeking into their writing practice, daily yoga and meditation sessions will be offered, and Auker will host an informal fireside wrap-up every evening.
Accommodations will be at the historic Hart House. You'll be nourished with gourmet breakfasts and come-and-go lunches. Two dinners will be held at Hart House; others will be in the charming town of Great Barrington, where farm to table dining is taken seriously.
Ample time to write and reflect in beautiful surroundings make Ordinary Skin: Developing the Writer's Life a perfect, intense, learning and growth opportunity for fiction and non-fiction writers at all stages of development. Retreat attendees will be asked to spend some hours of the day in silence.
Space is limited to 6 -8
$1495 Includes workshop, 5 nights of lodging, daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks and two dinners at The Hart House. Other dinners will be a group excursion to one of Great Barrington's destination restaurants.
